Natural Disaster Cancellation Policy

Policies apply to periods of Volcanic Activity and/or Hurricanes that are declared Disasters,and or Tsunamis which impact the airports and roads on the Island of Hawaii and the safety of the community of Volcano.

• Cancellations due to Airline Cancellations During Natural Disasters

100% Refund for cancellations due to a cancelled airline flight, which could not be rebooked in time for a scheduled reservation.

OR a Voucher for the value of the cancelled stay for a future reservation within 6 months of the cancellation. Voucher is not transferable and cannot be used for cash or anything else other than lodging

50% Refund for cancellations due to a cancelled flight that can be rebooked in time for a scheduled reservation. OR a Voucher is also available

• Cancellations Due to a Personal Choice to Change Travel Plans during Natural Disasters

85% Refund for Cancellations 30 days or more before the date of arrival during a volcanic disaster, this includes the 15% cancellation fee.

OR Voucher for the value of the cancelled stay for a future reservation within 6 months of the cancellation.

50% Refund for cancellations 15 days or less before the date of arrival during Hurricane conditions.

50% Refund for cancellation less than 30 days before the date of arrival during an active volcanic disaster.

100% Refund under following conditions only:


For those who do not cancel during hurricane conditions and plan to be with us, if the area should become unsafe due to flooding, wind damage, and/or airport and road closures we will be issuing a full refund to guests whose reservation dates fall within the hurricane damage period.

For those who do not cancel and plan to be with us during an active volcanic event, should the volcano become unsafe and the county orders an official evacuation of the Volcano residents, we will be issuing a full refund to guests whose reservation dates fall in the evacuation period.

Holiday Times:

No refunds are guaranteed at Holiday times, Rainforest Run and Merrie Monarch Festival.

Trip Insurance:

We understand that sometimes your travel plans can unexpectedly change. Volcano Rainforest Retreat is a small Bed and Breakfast and cancellations or changes to your reservation can affect us greatly. Cancellation policies will be applied.

For your financial security, in case of any changes and possible emergencies, including medical conditions, we recommend that all guests purchase travel insurance.
